Operations Manager

GFR Ingredients is located in Barrhead, Alberta where we process and manufacturer premium, plant based ingredients.  We are currently seeking to hire an “Operations Manager” to join our team.

Main Responsibilities will include (but not limited to):

Production:

  • Monitor operations and trigger corrective actions.
  • Effective analytical, planning, and organizational skills to track labor and cost across the manufacturing departments.
  • Lead continuous process and systems improvements for future Production efforts.
  • Coordinate team activities to help cross functional teams to be more successful.
  • Formulate and implement manufacturing policies and programs to maintain and improve the competitive position and profitability of the operation.
  • Stay up to date with latest production management best practices and concepts.
  • Plan and allocate resources to effectively staff and accomplish the work to meet departmental productivity and quality goals.


Logistics:

  • Direct and oversee operations within the Warehouse; including the transportation and storage of goods, vendor selection and negotiation, distribution, and inventory control.
  • Develop logistics plans and procedures to ensure that internal and external customer needs are met.
  • Partner with vendors including freight, brokerage, and distribution providers.
  • Identify opportunities and implements solutions to maximize revenue opportunities and/or lower costs.


Management:

  • Assist in the development of a departmental plan that incorporates goals and objectives that works towards the strategic direction of the company.
  • Foster a culture of continual improvement and a focus on best practices.
  • Lead employees to meet the company’s expectations for productivity, quality, and goal accomplishment.
  • Plan and allocate resources to effectively staff and accomplish the work to meet departmental productivity and quality goals.
  • Partner with Human Resources to recruit, hire, and train while employing an appropriate number of employees.
  • Maintain transparent communication. Appropriately communicate information through department meetings, one-on-one meetings, and appropriate email, and regular interpersonal communication.
  • Provide effective performance feedback that promotes both positive and constructive feedback, includes goal setting and performance development planning.
  • Model and promote the company’s mission and values.
  • Work collaboratively with the other departments to ensure department and company objectives are achieved.
  • Provide training and development that encourages the employee’s professional development.
  • Develop a personal plan that promotes further leadership development.


Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years Manager Manufacturing experience;
    Food industry experience will be considered an asset.
  • Proven managerial experience.
  • Practical Material Handling Equipment experience.
  • Proven ability to implement process improvement initiatives.
  • Understanding of Manufacturing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Working knowledge of GMP and Safety Regulation.
  • Effective communication skills and strong computer skills.
  • Strong decision making and problem solving skills.
